Research Context

Educational and social inequalities linked to gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status (SES) are major challenges in Hong Kong, with significant implications for economic and social well-being. Despite government efforts to reduce inequality, educational disparities persist, impacting students' access and learning outcomes. Previous research in Hong Kong has highlighted the influence of gender, ethnicity, and SES on educational inequalities, but there is a need to understand the intersectionalities among these demographic characteristics in shaping educational experiences.

Research Questions
  1. To what extent are gender, ethnicity, and SES associated with inequalities in secondary school students' key schooling experiences?

  2. How do interactions between different demographic characteristics contribute to inequalities in these key schooling experiences?

  3. How are potential intersectional inequalities in students' schooling experiences moderated by their school context?
